If you are looking to earn gift cards, there’s an app called Downtime Dollars (formerly Dabbl) that claims you can turn your free time into gift cards.

It sounds appealing, but before you download the app, you should learn more about it.

First of all, is it legit and really a good way to earn, or is it just a scam?

Downtime Dollars, which used to be called Dabbl, is an app that will reward you for providing feedback about certain products and brands. It is indeed a legit app since you will really be able to earn gift cards from the earning opportunities it offers.

However, that does not necessarily mean it will be worth it. And ever since the rebranding, the app has changed quite a bit.

To get a clear understanding of how this app works and if it is the right opportunity for you or not, we have to take a look at the earning opportunities it offers.

So, here’s how to earn from Downtime Dollars:

Option 1 – Uploading Receipts

One way to earn from Downtime Dollars is by uploading receipts. There's little information regarding this opportunity, but the idea is that you just need to submit a photo of any receipt. You do have to make sure that the photo is not blurry and that all the items in the receipt are readable.

Based on my experience, you can only submit receipts within a week of the date of purchase. I'm not exactly sure if this is the case with Downtime Dollars, but that is how it usually is with other apps or sites that offer this kind of earning opportunity.

After you submit the photo of the receipt, the app will review it, and if everything is in order, you'll earn a certain number of points as a reward. The number of points you will earn will depend on the number of items included in the receipt. So, the more items there are, the more points you will earn.

Option 2 – Paid Surveys

Another way to earn is by answering paid surveys. It doesn’t have its own surveys, but it has partnered with other survey providers to give its members an additional way to earn.

Their surveys work like any survey on a paid survey site. But if you haven’t been a member of a paid survey site or app before, let me explain to you how it works.

When you take on a survey, the first thing you have to do is answer a set of qualifying questions. Once you are done with the qualifying process, you will be notified if you qualify or not. If you fail to qualify, the process ends, and you simply move on to the next available survey.

If you do qualify, you get to answer the survey. Then, once you finish the survey, you will receive the reward promised, which will be displayed in the survey offer (refer to the photo above). That’s all there is to it.

You just need to be a bit patient with this earning opportunity because it can sometimes take some patience to find the surveys you qualify for.

Option 3 – Paid Offers

You can also earn more rewards by completing their paid offers. This opportunity isn’t as common as the other two mentioned above, but it’s still one way to earn additional rewards.

These paid offers are just short tasks you can do to earn rewards. When I was doing my testing, all of the paid offers available either asked me to download an app or sign up for a website.

The process for completing a paid offer is very easy. Just press any offer you want to work on and read the instructions carefully. Make sure you’ve understood what the offer is asking you to do before you complete it, because if you miss even just one step, you will not be able to complete the offer, and you won’t receive the reward.

In other words, you’ll just be wasting your time. Now, when you’ve completed the offer, you will receive the reward promised, and it will be credited to your account.

Option 4 – Referral Program

Lastly, you can earn referral rewards through their referral program. This kind of earning opportunity is really common on Get-Paid-To (GPT) and survey sites.

The idea is that you share your invite link with the person you want to invite. When that person clicks the link and joins, they will become your referral.

But before you can earn the reward, your referral must complete one paid offer first. When they’ve done that, you will receive $0.25. But you can only get a maximum of 20 referrals. That means you can only earn a maximum of $5 from this opportunity, which makes it a pretty limited earning opportunity, in my opinion.

How do you get paid?

As explained earlier, whenever you earn, you will receive a certain number of points, and it will be credited directly to your Downtime Dollars account balance.  Then, you can exchange the points you’ve earned for various gift cards.

The minimum number of points required to redeem a gift card is 5,000 points. That will be equivalent to $5. But you can also redeem a $10 gift card if you have enough points.

There are various gift cards to choose from (Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Lowe’s, Bed Bath & Beyond, and more). But as mentioned at the beginning of this review, you can only earn gift cards.

So, if you are looking to earn cash, I would instead suggest you check out the top sites that pay via PayPal.

How much money can you make?

The amount of money you can earn from Downtime Dollars will depend on how actively you are using the app. The other factor that can affect your earnings is how well the app pays.

In this regard, most of the videos I watched allowed me to earn around 50 to 70 points each. That means you can usually earn around $0.05 to $0.07 for videos. Paid surveys reward more because you can receive 300 to 500 points depending on how long the survey is.

Paid offers have lower rewards than surveys (usually around 100 to 200 points).  So, while their payout threshold is relatively low, it can still take some time to reach it because the app doesn’t pay that well.

That’s why I would say its earning potential is quite low.

Can you use it on a desktop?

It is a mobile-only platform. So, you will need a mobile device to earn from it.

The good thing is that the app is compatible with both Android and iOS devices, so you shouldn’t encounter any compatibility issues. Plus, their app is also user-friendly. You will easily get used to using it.

You will encounter ads from time to time, but it’s not as annoying as some of the other apps I’ve tested. So, overall, I would say the app offers a decent user experience.

Who can join Downtime Dollars?

It is only available in the US. So, if you live somewhere else, then this app is not for you. You also have to be at least 18 years of age to register as a member.

However, there are so many great survey sites in the US that offer better opportunities, so, in my opinion, you should only join if you want to join as many platforms as possible.

To become a member, you will have to provide your mobile number first. There’s no way around this because it will send a confirmation code to the number you’ve entered. So, if you want to register, you will have to provide your mobile number.

Once you’ve completed the registration process, you can log in to the app and start earning.

Can you get support?

Now, if you have any questions about the app or your account, you can refer to their FAQ page first. It discusses some of the basic topics you need to know about the app. Their FAQ page can be accessed from both their website and the app.

If you can’t find the answers you are looking for, you can communicate with their support team in two ways.

Overall, I would say it offers a decent support system for its members since you have two convenient ways to get in touch with its support team.

Final Verdict

Downtime Dollars is a legit survey app that will reward you for answering surveys and completing other earning opportunities. It has a couple of advantages, but it has a few limitations you need to consider as well.

Let me finish this review by summarizing its pros and cons so you can get an overview of what the app has to offer. That way, you can decide if this app is a good fit for you or not.

Downtime Dollars, in my opinion, isn’t a bad survey app. But it also doesn’t stand out either. So, there’s little reason to use this app. Its main drawback is that it doesn’t pay that well. So, even though it has a low payout threshold, it will still take some time before you can withdraw your earnings.

It also doesn’t help that they will only reward you with gift cards. That’s why I would only recommend you use this app if you absolutely need another survey app to join.

Otherwise, I would recommend you check out the top survey and GPT sites in your country instead. The sites on this list all have good earning potential, and most of them offer cash rewards as well.

Plus, you will definitely find a site or app you can join regardless of where you live.
